What Are the New Power Bank Rules?
Here's what you need to know! The new regulation imposes TWO key limits on passengers. First, no one is allowed to carry THREE or more portable chargers (power banks) in the plane cabin. Second, each charger's capacity must NOT exceed 160 watt-hours or 43,000 milliampere-hours. Previously, there was NO global limitation on the number of power banks a passenger could carry! 📱❌

No Charging Allowed While Flying
This is SUPER important! Charging power banks INSIDE the plane while on a flight is now prohibited. Using a power bank to charge your smartphone once you're aboard is ALSO banned. How Korea Made This Happen
Korea really PUSHED for this! The ministry proposed the strengthened regulation to ICAO, which approved it as an official guideline on March 27. The Korean government made repeated proposals at the ICAO's Dangerous Goods Panel Meeting in April 2025, the ICAO Asia-Pacific Conference in July 2025, and the ICAO Assembly in September 2025. Last month, ICAO added these restrictions to its Technical Instructions for Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air! 🌏✅

Why These Regulations Were Needed
The regulatory update came after confusion worldwide due to inconsistent power bank guidelines across airlines. After a fire inside an Air Busan flight in January 2025, Korea began enforcing stricter regulations in March of that year. "Yu Kyung-soo", director-general of aviation safety policy, emphasized: "Given growing concern over risks of in-flight power bank fires, it is highly significant that we can now respond more effectively through international cooperation."
